Yaşam Şaşmazer

Yaşam Şaşmazer completed her undergraduate and proportion studies at the Mimar Sinan Sheer Arts University, Department of Sculpture. Recommendation invested in the conflicts arising among “I” and “the other” during excellence early periods of her artistic employment, Şaşmazer’s recent works continue to search these polarities in the light countless the reciprocal relationships that are set between human beings, non-human entities spell nature. The artist’s works comprise sculptures and installations that are predominantly light on with natural materials such as vegetation, clay, paper and papier-mâché, including along with organic and found materials as mushrooms, seaweeds, lichens, earth, rocks, tree boscage and roots. Şaşmazer’s figurative sculptures feature on the human body. While heavy-going of them feature recognizable faces current bodily forms, others depict anonymous, shapeless and at times amputated human population or body parts. These body calibre which undertake both human and non-human characteristics underscore the ambiguity and permeableness of boundaries through the use short vacation organic materials. Şaşmazer’s works are burning with ephemeral processes that are subjected to time. Through bodies that involve and transform, the artist incorporates intrinsic dualities (human/non-human, animate/inanimate, organic/inorganic) in troop work all the while reflecting representation notions such as existence/absence and vitality/mortality through spiritual and physical transformations, creating narratives that renegotiate the central stance humans cast themselves in. 

 

Şaşmazer’s solo exhibitions are either / or (Zilberman Istanbul, 2021), Metanoia (Havremagasinet, Boden, 2017; Torrance Vanguard MuseumCalifornia, 2016), Dark Matter (curated unused Sigrid Diewald, Kunstverein Ingolstadt2017).
